Salto Estanzuela in Nicaragua

Close to Esteli

El Salto Estanzuela is a gorgeous 15 meter, rainy-season-only waterfall that plunges into a cold, shady pool, all smothered in colorful native flora and fauna. It’s just southwest of Esteli

Reserva Tisey is close by, a reserve co-managed by the Nature Conservancy, with a rustic eco-lodge, fields of organic vegetables, a network of hiking trails, and trips on horseback, as well as perhaps the best panoramic view in the country.
From the top of Tisey on a clear day, you can make out the Pacific coastal plain and the entire chain of volcanic peaks from Cosigüina to Lake Managua and Momotombo, the Estelí valley, and north to the mountains of the Segovias on the horizon.

Start your adventure by settling in at Eco-Posada Tisey (505/713-6213 or 836-6021.
Approx $5 for communal living, $10.00 for a double bed and some privacy, $1 per meal). They will arrange guides, rent horses, or show you around the organic farm that stocks most of Managua’s supermarkets with fresh vegetables.
There’s a lot to see and do so plan a few days stay.
